VortexBox supports two software music players: VortexBox Player and Squeezeslave. These players interface with SqueezeBox Server to play music on the audio output jacks or on a USB DAC on your VortexBox. You can use one player or the other at one time; not both.

Advantages of VortexBox Player:

* supports high-resolution (up to 24 bits/192 kHz) playback.

* supports low-resolution (32 kHz) playback.

Advantages of Squeezeslave:

* supports perfect gapless playback of FLAC albums.

* supports near-sync with Logitech hardware players.

If you don't care about these differences, stick with VortexBox Player, which is the default.

If you want to use Squeezeslave instead of VortexBox Player, update your VB to the latest software, and enter

switch-player squeezeslave

from the command line. The default player name in SqueezeBox Server is "Vortexbox".

You can change this name (I suggest "Squeezeslave") on the SBS > Settings > Player page.

If you want to switch back to VortexBox Player, enter

switch-player vortexbox

from the command line. The player name in SqueezeBox Server is "VortexBox Player".
