Vortexbox Player - List of Compatible DACS

It is USB powered so the box determines what happens. I just upgraded the box to get the latest vortexplayer version and the DACport is now back to 0. I have unpluged no devices, the DACport remains plugged into the same USB port.

Would love to be able to fix it to a location. Will leave it for now and keep looking at it.

The only thing I can think of is to turn the soundcard off - I guess this would mean finding a keyboard and monitor to modify the BIOS settings on the box?

Anyone else finding that the ALSA device list is changing?

This is not really relevant to your last post, but thought you might be interested to know that there's a glowing review of the DACport in the June edition of Stereophile.

vdeknock, sorry about that It looked to me like it had a switch. Your idea of dropping the audio in the bios should also work. I drop the audio from the bios in all my units. What happens if you assign the dac to 0 and 1 at the same time?

As for updating the system for a fix keep in mind that this sounds like an alsa issue and alsa would have to fix the issue and the fix would need to make it into the current running alsa code before any updates in Vortexbox will help. Try a quick search in the alsa forum or post the question there. In the mean time should a fix in Vortexbox be found I'm sure we can get Andrew to help out.

In another post someone else has the same issue with the DAC changing location. Andrew suggest that this command be used. I am going to try this tonight. I have placed it here so we keep all the good information in one place. I assume this ensure that the DAC is always on position 1

    echo "options snd_usb_audio index=1″ > /etc/modprobe.d/usbaudio1.conf

Vortexbox Player - List of Compatible DACS

    Hi,

I was having trouble with my Turtle Beach USB DAC chaning from hw:0,0 to hw:1,0 on reboots.

Also I only found the TB USB DAC to work reliably as hw:0,0

    I tried

    nano /etc/modprobe.d/usbaudio1.conf

    options snd_usb_audio index=1

    options snd_hda_intel index=0

but this made my internal/motherboard/intel soundcard hw:0,0

    I ended up using

    nano /etc/modprobe.d/usbaudio1.conf

    alias snd-card-0 snd_usb_audio
    options snd-card-0 index=0
    options snd_usb_audio index=0
    alias snd-card-1 snd_hda_intel
    options snd-card-1 index=1
    options snd_hda_intel index=1

note the usb DAC is forced to hw:0,0

This seems to work and be robust on my Vortexbox.

    Hi,

Just reporting that the Onkyo UWL-1 (also known as UWL1S) wireless usb DAC works.

Plug it in, hit submit on the Vortexbox for configuring a new Player and it mecomes available and plays fine.
