    new user needs help!

    Greetings,

please excuse the lameness of my questions as this is all new to me

I am currently running a windows vista laptop and purchased a duet and vortex box appliance.

Duet set up fine out of the box and i was able to access music off my laptop.i plugged vortex box into my router, burned a few cd's and was able to access then thru my controller

i thought i would see the vortex box in my laptop as a new drive, but this is not the case, i can see it as attached to network, but when i click on it it opens windows media player and the library associated with vortexbox is empty

how do i access vortex boc thru computer?

also i do not have seperate monitor/keyboard can i hook up vortex box directly to laptop/ is so, how?

another problem cropped up this am, i accessed vortexbox thru controller and no sound(shows cd's and they look like they are playing), was able to access squeezebox on laptop and that plays fine

    other, less important questions:

how do i access album info such as musicians, liner notes etc?

how do i acess the mp3 rip to load my ipod? at what ratre are these ripped?

will duet controller automatically access flac and not mp3?

    all help is greatly appreciated!

You can use Start -> Run -> vortexbox under windows XP to access your VortexBox file share.

and open your internet browser and type the ip address or (swap the foward slash to a backslash) //vortexbox and have a look at the icons down the side may help.

Make sure the Duet is pointing to the right device etc.

You should be able to see the music listed in the web interface for the squeezebox server.

Read many of the documents at the top of the list in the documents tab, this may help.

    Have fun!

A standard monitor and keybaord will work. You can delete the cover.jpg files and replace them with you own cover art. You can use an ID3 editor to change the tags.

    Hi sharkdrive,

MP3 are ripped sepeartly as you can get the right cover.jpg, tags sorted out, mess about with quality without having to dive into the settings file with a text editor. It also allows the whole process to happen much more quickly when ripping lots of CDs.

I prefer it as once I have sorted out the flac files for the IPod users in the house all the tags are right.

Google Mp3tag or Picard, these are good tools for changing the tags.

WinAmp is useful for doing this stuff on a small scale and I find better for tagging complations.

ID3 tags are things list track name, artist name etc.

    Cheers,

    James
