    Newbie questions

    A Happy Christmas to all!!

Only heard of Vortexbox a few weeks ago, and and now thinking of getting the new VB 1.0

Some (probably obvious) questions though -

I am planning to use this as a NAS - i.e. I do not have a 'spare' computer hanging around as has been mentioned in other forums re VBOX. So is this device a stand alone piece of hardware?

On the presumption that it is, (how) will I be able to transfer music currently on my PC to the V/Box?

Can I download new music direct from the internet to the V/Box?

Can it be bought in the UK?

Sorry if these questions are on the basic side!!!

    Many thanks

    There are 2 options.

    1. Buy the dedicated Vortexbox

or 2. Download the Vortexbox software from teh Download page, burn it into a CD and install onto a PC. or laptop.

The PC becomes a dedicated music server and also NAS - you can't use it for normal PC work anymore - you can remove the monitor and keyboard after the installation. As for music ripping, its real easy, just slot in the CD and it does the rest, no software to start, files to save or transfer.

    Hope this explains.

    Merry Christmas to All!

    Tan

VortexBox (VB) is the software. It's free and when installed on a PC, that PC becomes dedicated and is impractical to use as a general-purpose PC.
VortexBox Appliance (VBA) is a very-fairly-priced PC with VB pre-loaded.

You will be able to transfer all music from you PC to the VB over your network. (The VB will require an Internet connection.)

    Yes.

I think so. (I'm in the US)
