Vortexbox crashes after a couple of hours

Hi I've installed the VB on a Atom 330 with 2 GB RAM: a clean simple install on a 1 GB HD with no raid as a starter. But the system crashes after a couple of hours usage, this happens by normal usage i.e. playing music by a squeezebox duet.

I'm pretty new to Linux so could someone please guide me in how I could error seek? (logfiles to look in etc&hellip

    Thanks

    Rune

Vortexbox crashes after a couple of hours

    Hiya,

OK, if you have a screen to plug in this will show errors as they occur.

If you can access the prompt try dmesg this might show errors.

By crash, do you mean the system reboots?

    Does something else happen?

Which version did you down load?

Help us out a bit with some detail.

    Cheers,

    James

Vortexbox crashes after a couple of hours

    Thanks James!

I know I'm a bit vague here, as I don't really know what or where to look for the fault/error. But I hope I can be more spesific with some guideance

What happens is that the server/computer is dead, but the fans for the CPU and PSU are running. I'm not able to get contact with the computer neither with the attached keyboard, or via network (i.e explorer, VB-GUI or putty). But it works perfectly after a hard-reeboot (power button)

It dies without any special actions going on (might be some backrouds jobs?). It could for instance die while playing music or when it idle at night.

I don't really know what logfile (or similar) to start looking. Can someone please help me out with some suggestions???

Can it be a hardware failure or something todo with BOIS-setup?

I'm running VB1.0 now. I had the same problems when I ran V0.9.

    Hiya,

It does sound like power saving settings.

Do you have any timers, power saving settings in the BIOS? Possibly reset the BIOS?

Login to the system and check at the prompt type "dmesg" this should help with any errors from startup.

    Does sound like hardware issues/settings.

/var/log contains all the log files (and dmesg) and a boot.log file.

winscp (at winscp.net) is useful tool for file transfers.
