    Video streaming

    Hi,

Love the software, have my squeezebox needs allset up now, however I am now looking at streaming video to my ipod touch, I was wondering if there is any plans afoot for this. I have done it to a degree and does work with an app on the ipod touch called plug player, but interface is a bit clunky, there is another one called air video which also works to a degree you need to install server software called air video server which does work, and the interface is not bad, however I have to connect through another pc and point the vortex network. Which does defeat the object having two pcs on.

    Many thans

AirVideo has been released for Linux, but is currently alpha. See.

I would love to see Air Video integrated into VortexBox, at least as an optional install package in the same way that Subsonic is done.

I have manually installed the Air Video Linux alpha but I can't get it to autostart on reboot.

I don't usually like to install Alpha software on VortexBox since the chance of it working perfectly is low. Did Air Video work for you?

    Hi Andrew

Yes it works a treat. I am not a Linux guru but I was able to build the necessary bits and pieces and install them on my VortexBox o/s. The only thing I can't do is get the server to start automatically upon reboot. I have to type a java command string to start up the Air Video server.

I understand your general rule about alpha software – it makes sense to me. If you do get any spare time though, it is worth checking out, even for your own use.

EDIT: and I haven't figured out how to get the server to announce via Bonjour on my local network... so I just typed the IP address directly into the iPad Air Server app.

The air video folks say the linux air video executable is the exact same one as the windows one (java code). I guess it is only designated as alpha because it is new to the linux platform.

It seems like if it does install and starts, it is probably not much more likely to fail than the windows or macintosh version. For what its worth, there are a lot of happy linux users ...

One option may be to expose it as an option for folks that are willing to take the risk ...

Sounds good. So does that mean that the linux *.jar file is interchangeable with the win version, and I can just use it on my VortexBox server in place of the currently installed one?
