I have noticed that in the recent (last 2 months) that the avahi-daemon seems to be using a lot of resources for a background process. on my twin core atom it is running at about 12%
constantly. Even playing music on squeezeplay all processes combined only hit 3%.
I understand the daemon is used in some apple bonjour services; is there any way the service can be configured to run less enthusiastically?
It will have an effect on power use and potentially affect music playback quality.
I have turned it off on my machine
service avahi-daemon stop
but a bit of a pain to do it each reboot.
