Thread: VB unit stll not connecting to network after HD and ISO disk install

VB unit stll not connecting to network after HD and ISO disk install

VB boots up and then goes through its cks etc and gives message cannot connect to eth0. So I followed forum members suggestions to ifconfig etho and it takes the ip addr in put: ip addr add 192.168.2.xxx/24 dev eth0 and takes; ip route add default via 192.168.2.1 but will not do anything when ip link eth0 up is input??? I had previously set up a static ip address and it appears the router assigns it as my sqeezebox will try to connect to that address but can't and gives message to make sure it is on line and has connection.

apoligize for sending private messages as it appears that is not the way the forum works so hope can get some help here. This is third day my VB has been down and I get in panic mode.

Does it work with DHCP from your router? You said it worked before. What did you change?

Changed nothing. The DHCP is still on on the VB config. But I did put a static ip address in The VB GUI when I had the original HD in the VB prior to the HD switch and ISO install. I have played around a lot with the new install to try to get it to work, but right now it is on a fresh ISO install and I have done nothing except the inputs in the above.

All fixed. Thank you Andrew for your help. Put the old HD back in and then changed the ip adress off of static. Put the new drive in and now all ok. Put the static ip back on and now putting the music etc back on from the 3T USB drive. So sometime soon will have my music etc back on line.

    I dont get it.

Arent the IP settings stored on the HD?

Putting the old HD back in, regarless of what you changed - should have zero effect on the new HD.

Sorry to confuse! BUT I know now I created a problem that was not there. I misunderstood Ron Olsen's very good instructions on the 3T hd partion set up (which went flawlessly) and then the ISO install. When he said at end to input ifup eth0 and the lan would come up I expected something like a GUI screen. When I went back and re-read I saw where he said to paste the IP ADDR IN THE BROWSER to get to GUI. The thing that added to my misunderstanding was the long time it takes the VB to connect to the LAN. This time I let it sit and then went and logged in fine.

Never knew how cool the VB really was until this HD change. Also made me want to learn more about Fedora.
