    Problem with M2Tech Hiface 2 and Vortexbox Player

    I am trying to set up an M2Tech Hiface 2 USB to SPDIF converter with Vortexbox player.
    I am running v. 2 still. The device is recognized properly, but 96Khz files are being played
    at half the frequency (and so are 88.2 Khz files).

    Here's the info from ALSA:

    ALSA device list
    0 [M20 ]: USB-Audio - M2Tech USB Audio 2.0
    M2Tech M2Tech USB Audio 2.0 at usb-0000:00:12.2-3, high speed

    List of audio device ports
    1: : sequencer
    2: [ 0- 0]: digital audio playback
    3: [ 0] : control
    33: : timer

    Also, here's the output while playing a 96khz file:

    cat card0/stream0
    M2Tech M2Tech USB Audio 2.0 at usb-0000:00:12.2-3, high speed : USB Audio

    Playback:
    Status: Running
    Interface = 1
    Altset = 1
    URBs = 8 [ 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 ]
    Packet Size = 1024
    Momentary freq = 47990 Hz (0x5.ffb0)
    Feedback Format = 16.16
    Interface 1
    Altset 1
    Format: S32_LE
    Channels: 2
    Endpoint: 1 OUT (ASYNC)
    Rates: 44100, 48000, 88200, 96000, 176400, 192000
    Data packet interval: 125 us

    Finally, here's the output of aplay -L:

    default:CARD=M20
    M2Tech USB Audio 2.0, USB Audio
    Default Audio Device
    front:CARD=M20,DEV=0
    M2Tech USB Audio 2.0, USB Audio
    Front speakers
    surround40:CARD=M20,DEV=0
    M2Tech USB Audio 2.0, USB Audio
    4.0 Surround output to Front and Rear speakers
    surround41:CARD=M20,DEV=0
    M2Tech USB Audio 2.0, USB Audio
    4.1 Surround output to Front, Rear and Subwoofer speakers
    surround50:CARD=M20,DEV=0
    M2Tech USB Audio 2.0, USB Audio
    5.0 Surround output to Front, Center and Rear speakers
    surround51:CARD=M20,DEV=0
    M2Tech USB Audio 2.0, USB Audio
    5.1 Surround output to Front, Center, Rear and Subwoofer speakers
    surround71:CARD=M20,DEV=0
    M2Tech USB Audio 2.0, USB Audio
    7.1 Surround output to Front, Center, Side, Rear and Woofer speakers
    iec958:CARD=M20,DEV=0
    M2Tech USB Audio 2.0, USB Audio
    IEC958 (S/PDIF) Digital Audio Output

    Any help would be most appreciated!

    What did you put for the device in the Configure Vortexbox Player GUI page?

    I left it at Default. Is this incorrect?

    Try plughw:0,0 or plughw:1,0 depending what number the device is in the list..

    Great, plughw:0,0 did the trick! Output below when playing a 24-bit 96khz file:

    cat /proc/asound/card0/stream0
    M2Tech M2Tech USB Audio 2.0 at usb-0000:00:12.2-3, high speed : USB Audio

    Playback:
    Status: Running
    Interface = 1
    Altset = 1
    URBs = 8 [ 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 ]
    Packet Size = 1024
    Momentary freq = 95980 Hz (0xb.ff60)
    Feedback Format = 16.16
    Interface 1
    Altset 1
    Format: S32_LE
    Channels: 2
    Endpoint: 1 OUT (ASYNC)

    Oops, spoke too soon! The frequency is now correct, but I am getting no audio sound.

    Any suggestions on what I should be checking? The volume on the Vortex Box player is set to maximum.

    Here's some useful info from dmesg. Does this mean ALSA mixer is unable to set the volume, and thus I am getting no sound?

    1, wIndex = 0xa00, type = 4

    OK, I got it working fine! Output was muted in ALSAmixer.

    Thanks, everyone....

    Please add M2Tech Hiface 2 in the list of properly supported USB devices for Vortexbox 2.1.

    sridhar, can you post the output of this command? It assumes that your Hiface 2 is hardware 1..
    amixer -c 1
