Thread: Help with installing please.

    Help with installing please.

I am trying to make a ISO disc, as per the instructions, however, when I try and copy the files from my downloaded ISO zipped file, Nero says that the CD is too small to record the files

The Vortebox files when unzipped are 681Mb. They wont fit when I try and burn them to a disc with Nero… what am I doing wrong please?

Are you perhaps trying to burn it to a CD-RW disc? I got the same error when I tried to use a CD-RW disc (which I usually use for trying out various linux distros), had to use a CD-R, in my case a 700MB disc that I burned using CDBurnerXP.
I pondered using a USB stick instead, but sadly the procedure for USB install was way to cumbersome.

You are correct... thank you, i will try and find a CD-R........ will see if that helps.

Also... thought i should have added this, as I know I will get stuck again
The comp which I have for my server (Vortebox) is a P4 2.4GHz with 1G Ram.

It has a Partitioned drive (C,D) NTFS 37GB and 55GB with Windows 2003 on C drive.

    It has a CD/DVD reader.

I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to make a ISO disc on my main PC, of the downloaded Vortebox zipped ISO files.

However, when (if) I do manage to do this, what do I need do to the computer, if anything, before I install the ISO disc with Vortebox? Ie, do I have to format the thing, remove windows somehow, or what????

    Thank you.

update... i seem to have "burnt" the iso cd, but cant get it to boot. That is, i have configured the comp to look at the CDrom as the first boot device, but it just then starts windows. Man I feel old....

Glad to hear you have it working.

The Quick Install Guide has some instruction on how to burn an ISO.

I have heard that Jack Daniels increases clarity when it comes to computers.

It mellowed me, just enough to stop me taking the computer outside and kicking it around the garden! ;-)
