Thread: install & boot issues with v 2.0

Question install & boot issues with v 2.0

I am installing from a DVD on a 250GB drive in a P2 box. Should be big enough and fast enough. (I had 1.10 on it before and decided to do a fresh install.) During the install I get a message: Dependency failed. Aborted start of shell on hvc1. No idea what that is but the install continues. with no other issues. When completed, I remove the DVD (no small feat, I might add) and reboot I get Grub with 2 entries. I allow the first entry to boot and it goes through the Fedora blue bar at the bottom of the screen and then asks me for my Vortexbox login. ?? I was never asked for anything but an Admin Password during install. I can't get past this, but I suspect the issue is farther back, like with the missing dependency.

Any help? I have tried this a dozen times. I tried with nogpt and also a little prayer. neither worked.

    Jon

I think you can ignore that: see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=790932

Username 'root' and your admin password should do it. But all this is on the console, right? Otherwise, is your box active on the network? If it is, that's it working: day-to-day interaction with the box is normally done via its web interface.

    V2.0 Install

    Hi,
I've had a different problem with upgrading from 1.5 to V2.0 on an Vortex box appliance (almost 2 yrs old). The install went ok a few warnings - which I ignored... instaled Sonos web ok and system operated ok reboted ok. Then I decided to use the update feature in the GUI for the latest version after 3 runs it finally reported update complete and opening the 'Home' window indicated the ver 2.1 - great I can now rip DVD's... but on reboot it failed with kernel panic failure unable to open vs etc. I've tried this several times thinking I might have a corrupt download but the same happens so I have reverted to V2.0 need my music. Any idea why? where the problem lies? My copy of V2.0 was downloaded in May of this year.

odd....there is no Ver 2.1. Only version 2.0. And one can rip DVDs with ver 2.0.

This should resolve your kernel panic problem. If it doesn't you may have a hardware failure of some kind.
