    No sound from vortexbox player

    Hi,
my vortexbox player seems to have stopped working - it shows as playing but no sound comes out. I'm using a digital spdif output from an atom based vortexbox, and have tried various combinations of hw & device to no avail...grateful for any suggestions!
    Thanks,
    Gareth

Check your settings in alsamixer and make sure that the digital output is unmuted, use plughw 0,1 or plughw 1,1 depending on the assignment on your vortexbox player configuration page. Make sure you save your alsamixer settings by issuing a alsactl store "#" where the number corresponds to the number assigned by alsa starting at 0.

Thank you for the help. I've checked alsamixer and the digital out seems ok (it shows a little symbol rtaher than "mm"). Can I just type "plughw 1,1" rather than the "hw:1,1" the help icon suggests into the config page?

As you can tell, I'm somewhat bewildered by the whole alsa devices thing!

    plughw:0,1 is your device

You need to type this device in EXACTLY like I have it here or it won't work.

Thanks. I tried copying and pasting that in but still no joy (What's the significance of the "plug" prefix?). Most puzzling!

You need to unmute it using alsamixer.

Cheers. It does appear to be showing as unmuted though (ie has the little green "infinity" symbol next to the spdif). Is there something else I need to check?

    Try iec958:CARD=Intel,DEV=0 instead of plughw:0,1

Ta; same result (is there anything I need to do other than submit and restart squeezebox server after each change I try?)
