    VortexBox Player DLNA/UPnP renderer

    Hey all,

Got VortexBox set up and it's working fine for everything except what I want it to do.

What I want is to be able to play music from the VortexBox machine via the onboard sound to an amplifier using a DLNA app on my Android devices. I have BubbleUPnP which is able to play the music on the Local Renderer using the Logitech Media Server, but as soon as I try to change the renderer to VortexBox Player it will just completely stop.

The machine is able to play music in this fashion using the SqueezeBox Server in the browser, but it's completely impractical to open a browser window to control my music remotely. Is this a problem with my installation, or is it a problem with VortexBox in general not being set up to play music using other DLNA apps?

I have been looking to do something similar - use BubbleUPnP to control the audio on the VortexBox. The short answer is that VortexBox is not a DLNA Renderer. My current solution is to not use LMS (I don't have any physical squeeezboxes) and use MPD, controlled by MPDroid on my android phone. I keep looking for a linux DLNA renderer but the closest I have found so far needs a graphical windows environment running on the vortexbox. This works pretty well (once I figured out that the digital out on my system was muted by default) although it would be nice to

-Just- use it, like there's an option

I'll use the app, but it would have been preferable to have a DLNA client/renderer in the VortexBox installation rather than just a server. I've never used any Squeeze* stuff before, so I have no idea if it's merely a legacy support option on behalf of the developers, or if it presents any real benefits over UPnP/DLNA (in a world where DLNA is King). It's just annoying, since if I want to play media on the amp local to the VortexBox I have to use the Squeezebox app, but if I want to play music anywhere else in the house I have to use BubbleUPnP or some other DLNA app. I want a consistent experience.

Use softsqueeze to play audio everywhere else. You can control it via the squeezebox app as well.

Tandata, is my understanding correct that you want to feed your amplifier from the vortexbox and remote control this on your android device?

Logitech has a free android app for that, look in the app store.
My understanding is that DLNA is a protocol for streaming audio.
