    Hi,

    04/08/2012 10:28:01 - Optical disk detected - type : DVD-A (DVD audio)
    04/08/2012 10:28:01 - Ripping RUNNINGONEMPTY...
    04/08/2012 10:28:01 - Installing (required) dvdae ...
    Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
/opt/vortexbox/docd.sh: line 91: /usr/bin/dvdae: No such file or directory
    04/08/2012 10:33:20 - Done.

Can someone help me to sort this out....Thanks

Don't know why the install of dvdae failed, but here's how to fix it:

    1. Login to your VortexBox; see Login.

    2. Install the dvdae package. Enter
    Code:
    yum install dvdae
    3. Insert your DVD Audio disc in the optical drive, and it should rip.

Thanks for reporting the error. The licensing issue is addressed in the wiki: http://info.vortexbox.org/tiki-index.php?page=dvdae

    To quote this wiki artilce:
    License Model:
    1. When DVDAE runs for the first time on Vortexbox, a 30 day free trial license will be downloaded automatically from Computer Application Studio. User input is not required, as long as the network is connected and has access to the Internet.
    2. After the 30 day trial period, DVDAE will stop to run with error message, "30 days trial period passed. The program will now quit"...etc.
    3. In order to continue using dvdae you will need to buy a license from Computer Application Studio.
However, I was unable to find any code in the current VB 2.0 software (vortexbox-2.0-31) that downloads a trial license. Perhaps Andrew can answer how the licensing issue is addressed. Perhaps a trial license can be downloaded from the Computer Application Studio website. I'll investigate when I have some time.

    Greetings,

I'd also like to rip a bunch of DVD Audio discs to my VBA but can't figure out how to get the latest DVDAE version into the Appliance

It would be great if on the GUI there could be, like MakeMKV, a DVDAE "Buy a licence here" hotlink at System Configuration > Licence Manager.

Andrew and Ron: From a computer idiot, Much Thanks for all your good work!!!

    Several issues:

    1. The version of dvdae in the VortexBox repository is dvdae-6.1.1. The current version on the Computer Application Studio website is dvdae-6.3.0. So the VortexBox version is out of date. I will inform Andrew, and hopefully he will update the VB repo to include dvdae-6.3.0. If you want to install this version now:

    a. Login to your VB.

    b. Download dvdae-6.3.0 from the CAS website:
    Code:
    wget http://www.dvdae.com/dvdae/dvdae-6.3.0-0.i686.rpm
    c. Install the rpm:
    Code:
    yum localinstall dvdae-6.3.0-0.i686.rpm
    2. A license is installed in /root/.dvdae/dvdae.lic the first time dvdae is run (NOT when dvdae is installed). This happens with the VB version (6.1.1) as well as the CAS version (6.3.0). I presume this is the "30-day free trial" license. But apparently this is not working for some users; see post #3.

    3. You can purchase a full dvdae license here: http://www.dvdae.com/purchase. I haven't gone through the procedure to buy and install this license, so I'm not sure of the details. But I think you'll have to install it in /root/.dvdae/dvdae.lic.

The dvdae-6.3.0 version contains the dvdae-gui for linux, which is
reason enough to install that over the old version. If you've got DVD
audio discs, this software is a must.

I sent this as a Ticket to CAS/DVDAE:

    Issues with DVDAE:

    1. The latest yum update on the Vortexbox Appliance gives me dvdae 6.3.0 (linux) but how do I access the dvdae-gui? I purchased an active license.

    2. Unless it's a dts only disc, there's no metadata, just chapter 1, chapter 2...very tedious to key-in everything.

    3. One DVD disc (The Alan Parsons Project- I Robot, 96/24 DAD) rips a single MKV file that I can't figure out how to convert to FLAC.

    4. Carly Simon - No Secrets, DVD-A rips only an empty Chapter 1 file.
    04/23/2012 21:48:16 - Optical disk detected - type : DVD-A (DVD audio)
    04/23/2012 21:48:16 - Ripping NO_SECRETS...
    Time used: 0s.

    5. When ripping other DVD-A discs, I get "Make sure libFLAC.dll has been correctly installed and there is no invalid character in the output file name."
    How do I troubleshoot this?

For example: The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots I only get 2 Chapters ripped out of 27.

    6. There needs to be better documentation/wiki/tutorial/how to/user forum...something.

    Frustrated.

The VB autoripper is definitely broken wrt DVD audio. I've been able
to work around it using dvdae-gui, and I should probably write a wiki
    page with details.

You will need to setup X forwarding to get the dvdae-gui to work...
(unless you're running X on the VB directly)

    http://info.vortexbox.org/tiki-index...X11+Forwarding

The DVDAE gui binary is named "dvdae-gui". Once you have X forwarding
setup, you should be able to run that.

Be sure to turn off the autoripper on the VB when you're doing an
audio DVD. Basically you'll need to tag the output files by hand.

I'll come up with more details when I'm not at my day job.

I've had some really good results with 5.1 DTS mixes on my squeezebox.
