Thread: VortexBox Appliance + SOtM > no sound via USB

VortexBox Appliance + SOtM > no sound via USB

I'm new to this forum, but have already learned a lot. I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem: I recently purchased a VortexBox Appliance and SOtM USB-spdif converter from Simple Green Computers. I'm having no problem playing music through my Sonos system, but want to use the SOtM to connect directly to my DAC (Bel Canto V3.5). The SOtM shows up in VortexBox Player Configuration, and VortexBox Player shows up as the player in the Squeezebox Server interface. The DAC thinks it's locked on to a signal, but I'm getting no sound. I've tried several combinations in the VortexBox Player Configuration GUI, but no luck. Does anybody have a suggestion about what I might be doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Rich

PM Sonore He should be able to help you with this. We should have a wiki for USB DAC's.... Since I do not have one, can someone step-up and write one please.

Got this going with some great support from Simple Green Computers. I'm not sure exactly what Andrew did while logged on to my system, but I thought I'd post to say what great support I got.

All that was needed was to unmute the device in alsamixer. We worked out a scheme and this will be done automatically going forward.

We added this to the latest code. The SOtM should automatically un-mute now. If it's not try upgrading your VortexBox using the upgrade button in the GUI.

Thank you for the upgrade Andrew!

i managed to unmute via the alsamixer before i saw this post.
I still have a problem, when i restart my vortexbox i have a loud static noise that stops if i select a music track.

Is this also fixed with this upgrade?

Yes i upgraded, however the hard static noise remains!

With an asus essence st i did not have this issue.
also sound was a lot better with the asus compared to all the sotm stuff i put in.
For a fraction of the cost!
