OK, some progress. I finally got a screen for Vortexbox, shows Main Menu and a table with capacity and some other sytem info. Strange that it shows capacity of 1.8T, 1.7T left with only 441M entered (1 CD), but at least I have something going. Next I will move the Squeezebox and see if they play nicely togther. Will keep you posted on further progress, thanks for your help and extreme patience thus far.

assume the screen I see is the VB GUI? However, I still cannot get my laptop and the VB communicating, except this one link. I downloaded Cryptoterm, entered //vortexbox from the search thru start as it say to log in on Windows 7, and the only thing it finds there is the e-mail with the receipt from when I ordered the VB. So I still can't access the CD file I loaded on VB, it still comes up Unknown artist/music and I have no way to pull it up on the computer to make the changes it says I can (edit files, ID artist etc.) Why does the laptop find the GUI but I can't find any other screens listed in any of the links listed here?

    Hi sb24
If you see the page as described in your browswe as described it means your pc and vortexbox are communicating.:-)
Hit the second icon from the top, this leads you to the logitech media server interface. See if your transporter is listed as a playwe in the upper right cornet

Transporter is not listed, says player is not found. Also can't get anything except the GUI screen, if that is what it is. Nothing like any pages described on the forum or wiki, and the lack of ID for artist or CD makes me assume the VB doesn't access either the Squeezebox or internet. So I'm stuck at this level for now.

In the VBA GUI select the top icon "Home" and what does it read?

get your VBA and laptop and router in sync with each other before the other things.

The 6the icon down "network configuration" on the GUI needs is going to need to be set up as one of your first things.

I can't access the Samba page, which I guess would show on my laptop whatever is on the VB. Nothing described here or wiki works to get that going.

What icons do you have in the "network" in Windows. In particular, there should be 2 with "vortexbox" as indicators. On mine one is "vortexbox media server" and the other "vortexbox." On Vista it is located in the start menu or the flag in the lower left of the browser screen. On the right side of the start menu I have menu options and one of the options is named "network." I do not have Win 7 so I do not know the setup, but it generally is similar.

By the way, I thought you said you were at the GUI already? You were reading data from the "system configuration" screen when you were citing the 1.8G and 1.7G info.

Also try typing http://vortexbox in your browser address bar at the top of your browser screen. This should also bring up the VBA GUI.

You may have to look for "network and sharing center" under "control panel" in the Win start menu. After selecting, look for a menu item "view computers and devices" and select that. That should show you devices/icons being picked up by your network and hopefully the 2 vortexbox icons are there too. You can right click on the "vortexbox media server" icon and select the first entry "view device webpage."

I saved the GUI window, and the Squeezebox window showing 8 songs entered, no ID for artist or song, and the upper right shows "no player found" but that may be because there was a previous instruction to shut it off if ripping, so I did. No icons for VB, but my desktop DOES show the Squeezebox icon, and I've tried the Control panel, network, all the usual routes I know of but nothing shows the VB on my computer. No indication anywhere of it on the laptop except when a search turns up mention of it in an e-mail. Yet I can get the GUI screen, so it makes no sense to me that the laptop can find that, but not the actual unit. Let me ask, will this solve things? My laptop is notoriously screwed up - I have an old desktop that also will not start up. If I take the keyboard and screen from the desktop and connect to the VB, will I be able to access the VB directly, bypass all computers, and get the screens/pages described in this forum so I can edit and ID? I already know the VB and Squeezebox will communicate, so if the problem is the laptop, will eliminating this possibly malfunctioning middle step let me get full use of the VB/Squeezebox linkup? I can't figure how the VB is hooked up directly to my router, should have internet access and can contact the Squeezebox, yet my computer can't seem to find or help either unless there is a problem with the computer causing all of this malfunction. I can easily connect the keyboard/screen to the VB if this might help get this all running correctly. Let me know.

Did you type http://vortexbox into the address bar of your browser yet?

Has your system been totally shut down since you've been tinkering around? It may help to unplug the vortexbox completely from router and plug back in again or shut down the whole system and restart and look again for icons in usual places. If you are online with your laptop then your router must be working.

It is basically not possible/likely that the VBA can't/won't show up on your laptop especially if the squeezebox icon is there. Really, that squeezebox should not even be plugged in yet anyway. This just causes confusion. If you can't access the vortexbox, then squeezebox makes no sense. I thought I heard you say you had music files on your laptop. Squeezebox may be looking for music there instead of vortexbox. This just is bad installation procedure until you get the vortexbox sorted out. Squeezebox eventually needs to be pointed at vortexbox and if it is going to your laptop your guess is as good as mine.
