vbplayer no sound through USB

ok, I have written plughw:1 into the vortexbox-player.php field, no check in the volume field. I have checked in the mysqueezebox.com page, where the player is not connected with the mysqueezebox.com, but the audio is set to fixed 100%. I still have no sound, but now for the first time, the DAC clock is not locked on the USB signal anymore, so something has happended ;-)
what should I do next

Are you able to use alsamixer on the box and adjust the volume of the USB device?
If so, set it to maximum and after that run '# alsactl store'

btw: How do I add my vortexboxplayer to the list of players in mysqueezebox.com? I have checked synchronize player with mysqueezebox.com in the logitech media server settings under mysqueezebox.com page. But on the website mysqueezebox.com I only see my Squeezebox Touch, but nothing else?

ok, I have reset the audio device to default and now at least my DAC clock is locked again on the USB connection, which I find more promising than your suggestion with the plughw:1, that unlocked the clock.
Now I still have no sound, I cannot find, access, see, let along open this damn alsamixer, which is really frustrating.

Is there no foolproof way of just reinstalling the f****g thing and make it work???

Open the webpage of your Logitech Media Server (vortexbox.local:9000, or the IP address that you are using) and select settings (bottom right of the page) and then fill out the login information in the tab mysqueezebox.com.

What are you using to control the player, iPhone? Web page?

either my samsung galaxy tab with squeezebox app, iphone with the same app, or pc with logitech media server, where I control the players, whichever is closest in reach and high on battery

And you verified on one of these remote controls that volume is not muted?

yes, when I switch the player to squeezebox (switch the DAC to spdif coax signal out of the touch) the I get sound, without touching the volume control (there is even no "mute" button on the interface on any of the devices screens)
