Mac OS X version of mp3tag

    EDIT Nov 19, 2012:

I created an OS X version of Mp3tag-v2.53, the latest version of Mp3tag.

This version was created on Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2, using Wineskin Winery 1.7, Wineskin-2.5.8, and WS9Wine-1.5.16 from http://sourceforge.net/projects/wine...atest/download, and the Windows version of Mp3tag-v2.53 from http://download.mp3tag.de/mp3tagv253setup.exe

    => Download it here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6229594/Mp3tag-v2.53.app.zip <=

Please download and use this version instead of the older versions described below.

    EDIT Mar 26, 2012:

I created a OS X version of Mp3tag-v2.50, the latest version of Mp3tag.
    Download it here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6229594/Mp3tag-v2.50.app.zip

This version was built using Wineskin-2.5.4 and the latest Wineskin engine, WS8Wine-1.5.0.

Please download and use this version in preference to the older versions shown below.

    ================================================== ===============

VB user ricostiguy recently alerted me to the existence of a Mac OS X version of mp3tag:
    http://vortexbox.org/threads/3217-Vo...ll=1#post20697

This version uses wineskin to run mp3tag-2.48 on Mac OS X.

I updated the app to use mp3tag-2.49b (the latest version, just released today). You can download it from http://dl.dropbox.com/u/622959.....ag.app.zip

I tested the app on my Mac Pro running OS X Lion and it seems to work well.

mp3tag is widely regarded as the best tag editor around (yes, it works on FLAC too). See http://www.mp3tag.de/en for more info.

I encourage all Mac users to check out this app, and use it for editing tags in their VB music library.

Mac OS X version of mp3tag

I'm running on a MacBook, but use MP3Tag on a Windows machine for editing.

Could not find a tag editor I liked on OSX.

    This is great news, thanks.

Mac OS X version of mp3tag

Cool - thanks for posting this. I have always used Remote Desktop to access my WIn 7 PC from my Mac just to run tagging software. Now I can run this "natively" on the Mac desktop and leave my PC switched off more often.*

It looks as if WINE and WineSkin have recently been updated. Maybe we can get a new version built with the updates?

I'm not sure if it is a limitation of wine or x11 or something else but it would be nice if I could drag a folder from finder into mp3tag like you can on windows.

Also I have noticed some GUI weirdness with this current version. If you click the column headings it will sort by that column, however the GUI leaves them "recessed" after you click one. Usually just the current selected one is "recessed" on the Mac these done seem to release when changed.

This may not be the best place for the question but does anyone know how to start mp3tag.app from the command line and pass it an folder to open up? This is easy on the windows version.

    Thanks,
    -Mark

Sorry, I don't know the answer to any of your questions.

You are welcome to experiment with the app and see what you can do to improve it. You can use Finder or Terminal to look at the directories and files inside the app, and modify any of its contents. That's what I did to replace mp3tag-2.48 with mp3tag-2.49b. Maybe a new version of wineskin can be installed this way.

EDIT: I downloaded Wineskin Winery 1.4 from http://wineskin.doh123.com/tiki-inde...page=Downloads and used it to build a new version of mp3tag-2.49b for Mac OS X, using the latest Engine (WS8Wine1.4) and Wrapper (Wineskin-2.5.4). Unfortunately, it does not fix any of the issues you raised, so I don't think it's worth updating the MP3tag app on my Dropbox site.

EDIT #2: I see you posted a question on the Wineskin forum (http://wineskin.doh123.com/tiki-view...opics_offset=1) and found out that you can't drag folders from Finder to any Wineskin app. The Wineskin Support Forum is probably the best place to get your issues addressed.

For now, you can use mp3tag File > Add directory... to add additional directories to the mp3tag edit window.

    Ron,
Thanks for the updates. I did post in the wineskin support forum as I figured that would be the best place for technical info. It does appear that it is a current limitation of the underlying libraries that wineskin is using. I'd be really interested to try your latest build if you don't mind. Could you add it to your Dropbox site or send it to me directly. If you pm me ill send you my email address. Thanks again.

OK, I uploaded the new version of mp3tag to Dropbox; it's too big to email: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6229594/MP3Tagnew.app.zip

    Ron,
Thanks for doing this. With your new version I was able to get the file associations working. Meaning, I can drag and drop files on to the app and mp3tag will load them up similar to windows. Folders still do not work, however, given what the guys said over at WineSkin, that's expected.

Silly question, but using MP*TAG with Mac, how do I add VBOX as favorite directory. The window doesn't seem to recognise NAS.

    Thanks,
