Today I did the weekly Upgrade of my VBA via the VortexBox GUI, and following the reboot, my monitor displayed the following:

Booting 'Fedora (3.1.6-1.fc16.i686.PAE)'
Loading Fedora (3.1.6-1.fc16.i686.PAE)
Loading initial ramdisk...

Before upgrading to SW Version 2.0 and Fedora 16 a while back, I never saw this ramdisk message, but things have been going ok, so I figured it was not big deal.

Anyway, the process hung at the Loading initial ramdisk message for about 3 minutes, and then the monitor began to display a series of message like this:

watchdog
kthread
kthread_worker
kernel_thread_helper

These message scrolled on my monitor for about 10 minutes. The I "booted" the VBA by pulling the power plug and then plugging it back in.

The boot process worked ok in that I could access the VBA GUI and my Squeezebox Touch plays my music library just fine. Instead of the messages I used to see scrolling on my monitor during an Upgrade process, the message is now see is "Adjusting time..." while remains on my monitor indefinitely unless I log in.

This is the second time my VBA has hung at the Loading initial ramdisk message. The last time I pulled the plug, probably too quickly, and I ultimately found that I had to go into CMOS and set the correct system time before I could straighten things out.

Should I assume I have some kind of CMOS problem, and do you predict that battery replacement is now in order?

Thanks.
