Hello,
Forgive me will this become available via the Vortexbox 'update' process or do I have to perform a complete i.e. fresh install. Sorry but I can't see in the documentation, faq...

You can install LMS 7.7.0 on VB 1.10 by following the instructions here:
http://vortexbox.org/forum/gen.....ver-7-7-0/
If you want to upgrade from VB 1.10 to VB 2.0, the simplest way is to backup your media library to an external USB drive, install the VB 2.0 ISO, then restore your media library from the backup drive.
VB 2.0 comes with LMS 7.7.0 preinstalled.
Hello Ron,

Well I've tried to carry out a complete new install with the V2 iso. I've tried the basic install 3 times and the Advanced once. All result in failure as the system doesn't boot from the hard disk following this process! Frustrating as you might imagine. For now I've reverted to 1.9 with a new iso disk. I'm attempting to install the 7.7.0 using your instructions above. This was the main reason for the upgrade. The 1.9 results at least in a bootable system. I guess this is a Fedora related problem?*

What hardware? Sorry the VB 2.0 ISO install isn't working for you.
Have you verified the md5sum of the ISO you downloaded?
Hello, sorry should have mentioned:
Intel D410PT With Integrated Intel Atom Processor D410 -*Mini-ITX Motherboard, 1GByte of RAM,*Western Digital WD10EARS 1TB Hard Drive SATAII 5400rpm. All approx. 6 months old. It seems to complete the install but looks like something goes amiss with installing the bootloader as nothing happens when it attempt to boot. As explained the earlier installs work. Yes I did a checksum and verified the burn. *Sorry not a Linux expert.

What BIOS version is on your board?
The Intel D410PT had a fix for booting Linux in BIOS version 0509; see*http://lukas.zapletalovi.com/2.....410pt.html and*http://downloadmirror.intel.co.....eNotes.pdf
Try upgrading the BIOS to the latest version (0512) and see if that helps.
Fedora 16 uses a different boot loader (GRUB 2) than Fedora 14 (GRUB). *Maybe that has something to do with your boot issues using the VB 2.0 ISO.
There was a GRUB 2 incompatibility with the INTEL D410PT a year ago on Ubuntu; maybe that was the problem fixed in BIOS 0509:

Hello Ron,
Good news,*Indeed you appear to be correct, I've now upgraded the bios, it was 2 years old! I've s successfully installed V2.0. Sorry should have considered that but wasn't aware of the grub changes...
There's another issue**- I can't view (as a network computer) the Vortexbox on my XP computer that I use for ripping my music. Not sure it's visible under my Windows 7 machine either!*
Perhaps this is known, covered some where else. But can't view to copy the music across the network.

Thanks once again.

Have a look at the very first [sticky] item at the top of this forum.

Hello rgro,
*
Thanks for your help. I got the network issue resolved but then discovered that the main plugin I use 'svrpowerctrl' wasn't present in the V2.0 build. I panicked and*reverted*to my V1.9 iso only to discover the same! ( I choose to shut the server down to save energy when not listening.)*
My observations: V2.0 doesn't appear 100% ready, an important to me plugin previously supplied isn't installed. No big deal you might say but this all takes a lot of time to work out , and again I stress Linux is not my*specialty and is thus totally dependent on you folks.
*
Questions if I may.
*
a) Is it possible to with Vortexbox to have separate disk/areas/partitions for the music? Such that these updates can be achieved without having to replace the music (This takes 6 hours across my network some 1000 CD's in FLAC, I keep my music on a separate external drive on another PC.)
b) Why does the Logitech Touch seem to get upset and force downloads as soon as the the server versions differ in version from the Touch Player and that installed on Vortexbox. I'd like to see a move to a regime where updates occur only if something is broken. As it is I seem to be forced to make these changes even if I'm not aware of an issue. I've spend 2 days so far on these changes.
c) Removing the srvrpowerctrl Plugin in the Vortexbox build seems odd , did this just get overlooked? Can we have a list of changes/benefits in moving from one version to version.
d) So now I'm back to the 1.9 iso. I manually installed 7.7.7 of the Logitech server. If I now run the Vortexbox updates what will happen? Will it ultimately take me up to V2.0 equivalent?

Thanks once again.

a. most updates work great and can be done from the GUI. But there is no easy way to upgrade between major versions.
b. I'm not sure. Maybe ask this in the Logitech forum and one of the developers will respond.
c. We used to include that plug-in*because*it was not included in the Logitech plug-in manager that is part of SqueezeBox Server. Now that you can*easily*install the plug-in using*the*plug-in manager wit would cause versioning problems to have to installed two different ways.
d. The GUI update will not take you to 2.0. You will need to run a manual procedure for this. We will be making LMS 7.7.0 part of the GUI upgrade.
