Using Vortexbox with new Berkeley USB>SPDIF converter

Inquired at dealer about the Berkeley USB converter and suitability for Linux: the product sheet says it works with "some versions of Linux".

This is the response I received:

"Berkeley does not support Linux, but in order to use it on a Linux based unit, it must be ALSA 1.0.23 or above and be able to select output device."
My understanding is that Vortexbox is using ALSA 1.0.24 and that you can select the output device, so this should work.
    Correct?

Andrew, sorry to question your response, but the device I'm referring to - the new Berkeley Alpha USB>SPDIF converter just shipped this week. It didn't have a predecessor at Berkeley.

So how are you so sure it works with Vortexbox? Or are you just assuming it will based on the criteria outlined above?

OK good point. I just assumed it worked because it says it supports the full USB 2.0 spec. All devices with full USB 2.0 support should work with VortexBox.

Have you taken a look at the SOtM converter? That's our prefered converter right now and has the same specs as the Berkeley Alpha.
