MPoD not working on iPhone to control VB Player

I installed MPoD on my iPhone submitted the VB player to work on my VBA and I get an error: Connection Problem, Couldn't connect to the MPD server. Followed the directions on http://info.vortexbox.org/tiki.....?page=MPoD*and no go. The MPoD app does not recognize the VB.

Tried putting iPhone in Airplane mode, rebooting devices, etc. nothing...

Is VortexBox Player running? Can you access it through the SqueezeBoxServer web interface? Can you play music through it using SqueezeBoxServer?

If VortexBox Player is not running, you can start it by logging into your VortexBox; see*http://info.vortexbox.org/tiki-index.php?page=Login

Then enter


service vortexbox-player start



Then verify that VortexBox Player shows up in the list of players in the SqueezeBox Server web interface. If that works, try MPoD again. It should work this time.

Thanks Ron. I did not realize the service had to be started via command line. Once it is started, will it stay that way if the VBA needs to be rebooted for some reason? Or will I need to start it manually each time?

You don't need to start it via command line. Just go into the GUI config for* VortexBox player, set it up the way you want, and press submit. That's it.

That's kind of what I thought, and is exactly what I did. Then I even tried rebooting.
It still does not show up in Squeezebox player list.

What do you get when you login to your VortexBox and enter

service vortexbox-player status

If vortexbox-player is running, you should see

vortexbox-player (pid xxxx) is running...

and it should show up in the list of players on the SqueezeBox Server GUI.

To see if vortexbox-player will autostart at boot time, enter

chkconfig --list vortexbox-player

You should see

vortexbox-player 0ff 1ff 2n 3n 4n 5n 6ff

If all levels are off, you can enable vortexbox-player to autostart at boot time by

chkconfig vortexbox-player on

Most of this should happen by default; don't know why you are running into problems.

Hello,

I've got exactly the same problem with Mpod not able to connect to the MPD-server, only VB-player is running! It shows up in Squeezeboxserver and is advertised in te GUI as "running" in the green bar. I use an iPhone 3GS and my router is a Zyxel P2602HW-D1A,if that's of any use.

What data do I have to put in for a manual setup, by the way?

FamilyTimeHT, when you put the iPhone in airplane mode it turns off wifi and you need to turn wifi*on again. Did you turn wifi on after turning airplane mode on? The idea is to keep the phone from using 3g/4g to surf the interenet because that will not allow the phone to see the vortexbox applaince.

First configure at least one VortexBox Player using the VortexBox Player web GUI. Next get a copy of MPoD or MPaD and run it. You will be able to see a list of your VortexBox Players automatically (VortexBox advertises itself using mDNS). You can select the player and control it.*

My point is that the description in bold doesn't seem to happen.

How could it be that te VB doesn't advertise itself or Mpod doesn't see

this!
