mkv to m2ts converter for Linux?

To be able to steam DVD and/or Blue-ray rips to my PS3 I've been converting the mkv files over to m2ts, but I have been using a Windows utility from a desktop system. I'd like to try and automate the process similar to the option to convert the mkv to an mp4 (I prefer using m2ts since it is lossless, quick and is not so cpu intensive a process) but obviously to do this I need a command line utility that I can install on the vortexbox.

Does anyone have a recommendation or experience converting mkv to m2ts under Linux? Any good/simple cli utilities available to do this?

    -thanks for any advice

mkv to m2ts converter for Linux?

    Hi Ron,

thanks for the info but that looks like it converts the mkv to an mp4 just like the latest version of vortexbox does. What I am looking for is a way to move the mkv to an m2ts file.

unless you're implying that ffmpeg can convert to m2ts? I did not think it could do that.

After lookng around a bit I think what I want is tsmuxer but I need to look a bit into this to figure out if a command line version can be used.

    Mark,*

If you want to be able to view the video on a PS3, why the insistence on converting mkv to m2ts. Converting to MP4 will allow viewing from a PS3 as well. If you really want the end result to be a m2ts file, vortexbox can do that as well. Use the makemkvcon command to use the backup mode. this will decrypt and backup the entire DVD. You can then delete the portions that you don't want and just keep the m2ts file. The command is:makemkvcon backup --decrypt --cache=16 --noscan -r --progress=-same disc:0 /storage/movies
Try that out and see if it works for you.

mkv to m2ts converter for Linux?

    Hi Ron,

I want to keep the original file quality and not need to have the system go through the long encoding process to create an mp4 (which can be quite some time for a large blue-ray file on a low power cpu)

Thanks for the pointer to using the makemkvcon command line you posted that looks like what I am looking for and it sounds like I should be able to script it after a little testing.

    -thanks

mkv to m2ts converter for Linux?

    hmmm

the makemkv backup of a blue-ray does not create an m2ts file. I'll have to test on a dvd to see if that is different. But it looks like I'll still need to look for some sort of utility to do what I want.
