setting up VB with a solid state hard drive

I built my VB with a 2 TB regular SATA drive and an Atom 2 core mother board but I was wondering if I set up with a combination of solid state drive for everything except /storage that will be located in the regular drive.

I assume that this could increase performance of the system. I think that all databases for squeezebox, minidlna, subsonic and daap will be accessed from the SSD as well as any temp file.

Has anybody tried something like this?

    Any feedback will be appreciated.

setting up VB with a solid state hard drive

I will be doing that tonight. I have a 60 GB SSD and (4) 1 TB HDD in a RAID 5 configuration for 3 TB for /storage. Using a Athlon II X2 Regor processor with 4 GB RAM.

I'll keep you posted. Should be easy enough to do. I setup a system to test vortexbox before I invested in the current setup and put everything except /storage on a 80GB HDD and /storage on a 1 TB HDD. The trick is to run the advanced setup for vortexbox.

Good luck. Looks like a nice setup you will build.

Installed last night. Went well. Man that SSD boots up fast. Temps on the SSD is 86 F and the four 1 TB drives are between 112 F an d 118 F.

    No problems so far!

Let me know if you have any trouble setting up your system. I used the advanced setup method.

setting up VB with a solid state hard drive

I did it last monday night. It's a charm now !!!

Before the change the video play stopped once every 2 or 3 movies. Browsing the sqeezebox was very slow* and dropped connection frequently.

    *

with the SSD installed I have*tested successfully several combinations like dlna video play of two different movies in the WD Tv Live and my IPad at the same time, video playing and squeezebox playing at the same time, ripping and watching a movie.

I am impressed of the difference.

The drive I installed is a Intel 40Gb**SSDSA2M040
