Okay, thanks for the help guys! I am going to load up the new ISO when I get home tonight. I have a feeling the disk is fine, so should be ok.

Just want to add for documentation purposes that*after the upgrade completed and*the message to reboot your VB came up, I manually shut it down by hitting the power button*vs. rebooting it from the GUI since I was going to move the box before firing it back up.*After reading several other posts within the forum, I am beginning to think that the upgrade was not actually completed as the message indicated, hence the*errors... Do you guys think that I would have experienced the same problem if I had rebooted from the GUI? If the upgrade was not actually complete, would it have waited before*rebooting itself?
If you get the reboot message your upgrade is complete. That doesn't mean there weren't errors during the upgrade. I always recommend shutting down from the GUI but the lightly touching the power button (not holding it down) is fine.
Andrew,
Yes, I*only lightly touched the power button, I did not do a forced shut down. I saw some other posts in the forum that seemed to indicate some people were having problems with the upgrading reporting it was complete, even though it wasn't. Also,*after doing quite a bit of research on the internet, it seems that the errors I was getting are related*to shutting down the unit improperly (which I didn't do unless the upgrade wasn't actually complete as reported when I hit the power button...).**
FWIW, I was able to get the VB up and running after overwritting a bunch of files, something I didn't want to try until I backed up. I still got some errors, but I was able to access it via the GUI, so there was definitely hope... I'm sure someone who is a little more familiar with fedora could've probably figured it out. In the end, I just went with a new install just to be sure there were no more issues.
The best way to reboot your VortexBox is via software: use the VB GUI "Reboot" button or the*reboot command.
Similarly, you should power down using the VB GUI "Power Down" button or the poweroff*command.
Powering down using the power button incurs the risk of doing it wrong and having a hard shutdown, which can result in filesystem corruption like you experienced.
A soft power down should never result in filesystem corruption.
A hard power down can often result in filesystem corruption.
Power down and reboot from software, not by using the power button.
Hmmm, I almost always turn it off using the power button. Again, I am not doing a forced shut-down by holding down the button, but just tapping it once and letting it go through the shut-down process. Are you saying this is bad? I rarely iteract with VB directly since I use mpad or mpod to play my music, so its just easier to hit the power button at the end of the night before I go to bed...
Haven't you already screwed things up once and caused filesystem corruption by an improper shutdown?
If you have a VBA, I suggest leaving it on 24x7. It consumes very little power, and leaving it on all the time is the best way to minimize problems.
You might also expand your musical horizons and use SqueezeBox Server to play Internet sources like Pandora and Radio Paradise.
Ron,
I'm not entirely certain what caused the file system corruption, it happened when I did the upgrade form 1.7 to 1.8. My theory at this point is that the upgrade had errors which caused my problem, but no way to really tell what went wrong at this point as I've already installed 1.8 from the ISO.**I have been using it this way for about 6-8 months now, so I don't think using the power button in and of itself is what caused the file corruption…

As for leaving it on all the time, I don't see why that should be necessary. Power isn't necessarily my concern, noise is, and the unit isn't exactly*the quietest thing. I've not had much luck getting internet radio to work on the VB, but I have other ways of playing internet radio that seem to work just fine*
