    aac+ radio streams

I've been using Vortexbox for just a few days, on a Tranquil PC (with an Atom 330 dual core processor). I'm pretty happy with it so far.

My only outstanding problemis how to play aac+ radio streams. This is something I used to do a lot on my previous system (a Qnap TS-109).

I've installed mplayer using the command:

    setup-mplayer

And I installed faad using the command:

    yum install faad2

I can now play aac/aac+ files on my hard drive (in files with an m4a extension). However aac+ radio streams still don't work.

It's not a networking problem, as I can play WMA radio streams without any problems. I also have Iplayer and Alien BBC up and running perfectly.

I think it's probably just a matter of adding to the custom-convert.conf and types.conf files. However I can't find any documentation explaining how to do it on this particular system.

Anybody know how to do this.

    Thanks.

    Richard.

    aac+ radio streams

To answer my own question, I just discoverd that aac+ radio streams do actually play after all, if I paste the URL into tune in URL. So looks like Mplay is set up properly after all.

The problem seems to be something to do with the way I was trying to play streams before, putting the URLs into paylist files. It's possible that the URLs just happen to have been changed recently, or perhaps more likley the newer version of Squeezecenter interprets them slightly differently.

I'll look into this myself, perhaps tune into an aac+ stream then try save playlist.

    Thanks anyway.

    Back again.

Seems I do have a problem after all. Something played once earlier, not sure why it worked that time. Now all I'm getting is

"Error no items found in playlist"

I'm now trying to play the following 2 streams that I just discovered.

    http://www.radiojackie.com:11278/

    http://www.radiojackie.com:5873/

they are actually 128k aac streams, previously the best streams this station provided were aac+, but I just found these when I went into theor web site to check that I had the correct URL.

These streams ought to sound really good, if I can get them to play.

At the moment I'm mistified by the error message I get when I copy and paste these URLs into the Tune in URL page in Squeezecenter. They play just fine on my laptop using Winamp.

    Any ideas.

    Thanks.

    Richard.

I don't think that can be the problem.

This evening I have tried out both the streams on my old Squeeze Center server (a Qnap TS-109). Both streams worked, it's only on my new Vortex Box server that I can't get them to play.

This radio station provides it internet streams by providing playlist files on their web site. They have Playlist files for Winamp, Windows Media and for Realplayer. I downoaded the Winamp versions (in .pls format) then simply opened them in Notepad, and copied and pasted the URLs to Slimservers Tune in URL page.

This works just find on my old server, but I can't make it work on my new VortexBox.

Other aac+ streams don't work either

Here are 2 more streams from a completely different broadcaster, these do exactly the same thing, They work just fine in Winamp, but when I try to play them on my Squeezebox it just says "error no items found in playlist"

I agree the same thing happens here. The first link I play plays fine. All the rest give the no items found in playlist error. I t hink this may be a bug in SC. I would keep trying on the SlimDevices forum. maybe sombody can give you the correct debug commands to research this some more.

Some web sites don't like you to rip their streams directly. You can access them until your http session times out. Then you have to us a web browser to get them back. Not sure if this is the problem.
