This is quite frustrating, I have a number of albums appearing in itunes OK but when clicked they don't play.
Totally random, and its the entire album not just individual tracks.
Is there anything I can do to remedy this?

Look at the file types you're trying to play. How are they encoded? FLAC? mp3? Apple Lossless? iTunes can't play FLAC without first transcoding it to Apple Lossless.
If you're just using iTunes as a media player, and not to sync an iPod or iPad, I suggest switching to a player that has native support for FLAC. This will let you play CDs you've ripped to FLAC on your VortexBox without requiring them to be transcoded.
I suggest using Media Monkey: http://www.mediamonkey.com/ if you're on Windows, and Songbird: http://getsongbird.com/ if you're on a Mac.
I have left the settings in vortexbox on default. I have ripped around 60 albums. And so far 8 won't play.
I don't think this has anything to do with itunes.
Try playing these albums using SqueezeBox Server; that will verify if the albums have been properly ripped to FLAC on your VortexBox.
If it's just iTunes that won't play them, try another player, like Play: http://sbooth.org/Play/, that handles FLAC natively.
The play back perfectly via XBMC, something however has occured that Vortexbox is not transcoding these albums when DAAP calls on them (I guess)
Is there a way to get a log or something?
No need to mess with iTunes and DAAP.
Use Play and point it to the music/flac share from your VortexBox.
It will play everything in your library perfectly.
I appreciate that but a little part of me really want to know why 8 albums won't play in itunes.
The attraction of Vortexbox to me was the ability for it to show up in itunes, XBMC and my UPNP player automagically and 2 3rds of this combination is working great.
I suggest looking at those 8 albums, checking the "Get Info" screen in iTunes, and seeing what the full paths to the files are. They are probably FLAC files that iTunes hasn't transcoded to Apple Lossless.
Surely itunes is not transcoding, itunes just does not play flac full stop, transcoding must surely come from vortexbox or the DAAP server.
Try dragging a flac into itunes, not a lot will happen, it certainly won't transcode it.
Infact I am willing to bet its the DAAP server, every disk I have ripped today has failed in itunes. I will restart the DAAP server (yet again) and see where I get.
Is there a way to get a log off vortexbox?
