vortexbox 1.5 and iTunes 10 not working

Hi there!




I've a problem with my vortexbox. I've installed vortexbox 1.5 on a VM, using standard configuration. Everything is working after installation, I can access SMB service as well as the web interface to edit the preferences.




But the iTunes connectivity with the DAAP service is not working. I've tried to connect with iTunes 10 but the vortexbox is not displayed in the shared menu. I've tried with iTunes 9 and there, everything is working perfectly. The vortexbox is immediately displayed int he shared menu as well as music streaming works great.




I've had a look in several topics but didn't find any hint. Forked DAAP service is running, no error message (Tried to stop start restart the service several time but no luck)




Has any one of you the same problem? Or can give me any one of you a hint how I can manage to use vortexbox with iTunes 10?




I'd apreciate every hint to find a solution!

Have you tried the 10.01 update to iTunes

I've made the update to 10.0.1.22 but is still not working.




Any other idea?

Could be a firewall or some other network related issue. 10.0.1.22 defintally works with VortexBox. In fact it works better then 10.0.0.0

For me it is the Windows firewall - when disabled, everything works




Anybody knows which ports should be let through the firewall?

The DAAP service uses tcp port 3689 by default- whether that's the case here I don't know.

thanks for the hint with the firewall, switched it off but still, vortexbox is not listed in itunes.


also tried manually using the provided ports but still no luck.




could it be something else ?

I guess your installation is on a virtual machine (VM?). Networking in such a case could be the problem.


So now it is a good time to do some sniffing on the network (Wireshark) and find out if there is any communication between the machines at all (especially on the above mentioned ports).

yes the installation is on a VM




I've moved the VM of vortexbox to a different host and now I can see the vortexbox in itunes. Don't know exactly why the vortexbox is not shown in itunes if the itunes machine is the host of the VM.




I tied to find out why it is not working with Wireshark but I could not see any prolem. But I'm quite sure that it is a problem with VMware since vortextbox is listed on all itunes clients in the network expect the on the host. I'll let you know if I find the solution for this problem but for now I'm fine with the current solution.
