Anbody interested in testing out an early beta of VortexBox 1.5 run this from command line.



yum –enablerepo=vortexboxbeta update



(that's double dash enable repo)




You will then need to go into the GUI and run an update from the updater.


You should now have the new daapd and some other features.

Thanks so much for making VortexBox version 1.5 available as a BETA release before general release.

I tried the command and get an error - dump from putty - let me know the error of my ways and I will try again to test the beta

I like the status bars for what is running.


I changed the location of my itunes files to the mp3 directory as itunes will not read flac files (could be wrong).


Could not get the DAAP server to start when pressing the start button on the status page. I have only installed the beta I have not installed any of the DAAP files discussed previously.


I have the DAAP icon on the left side and as stated above have changed the configuration.


I have a large gap on the left between the subsonic and vortex-player icon. Should subsonic be removed?


Would like to fully test the itunes server as my kids are hooked to the crap. Will update to itunes10 when I can see the server running.

You need to run the update button from the GUI to get the new daap server installed. Not sure about the gap. The new DAAP server with transcode FLAC files to wav files in-line. So you can use flac files with iTunes.

I did do a GUI update yesterday and again this morning and no packages are available for update.

Just looked on the status page and DAAP was STOPPED rather than unknow so I pressed start and it now says RUNNING.


I will start itunes. Given my kids like to pull music from the server to their local PC and onto ipod MP3 make it easier for them. plus they dont care about music quality.

All is working with itunes10 - complete library is available and playes. Would be nice is cover art was transmitted or itunes when and looked for it. But this is an itunes issue rather than vortexbox.


You do get untitled playlist each time itunes is started - appears again to be an itune issue as it does the same for the WDlive tv box.


Am yet to try the flac files - will give it a go soon.


Otherwise beta 1.5 is giving me no issues.

Seems to be an issue with playing random now and also albums... only one song plays then it stops.




Audio outputs now broken on the VB .... time to do some backtracking...




How to uninstall a beta? and go back a release?
