Andrew
Just performed an update and VB player doesn't exist anymore. I had also updated through the command line to trial miniDNLA, so don't know which update has killed the player.
Squeezeslave still works but as you can see from below, VB player doesn't!
[vortexbox.localdomain ~]# switch-player vortexbox Switching to VortexBox Player Stopping Squeezeslave cat: /etc/vortexbox-player/mac_list.conf: No such file or directory [vortexbox.localdomain ~]# rpm -q vortexbox-player vortexbox-player-0.9-4.fc11.i586
Was there something in the last update?

My "Upgrade" to mpd.i586 0:0.16-11 and vortexbox-player.i586 0:0.9-4 also has no VortexBox Player.
Also, I get: [vortexbox.localdomain sbin]# service squeezeslave status Squeezeslave is stopped [vortexbox.localdomain sbin]# service squeezeslave start Starting squeezeslave daemon (USB): No audio device. [ OK ] [FAILED]
Since none of the recent "Upgrades" have functioned correctly, I am wondering what the pre-release testing process is. - Do you have a VBA setup like a customer would? - Do you verify that system can be Upgraded and function before posting the new versions?
What should customers do to restore squeezeslave function?

How to restore Vortebox-Player:
Evidently the latest update wiped out the config file for vortexbox-player. To restore function, use the Vortexbox GUI and click on the Loudspeaker Icon to manage the Vortexbox-player. Your configuration with MAC address and port allocation should still be present. Just hit the submit button and wait for the system to update. Your Vortexbox-Player should now be selectable in the SBS window.

Thanks Bill
Tried that but no success perhaps due to previous attempts to solve the issue. However
yum reinstall vortexbox-player.i586 followed by your suggestion solved the problem. Thanks

Thanks Bill and Steve,
I did both the actions you suggested and also got VBP to function.
Unfortunately VBP synchronizes unacceptably with the Duet Recievers and after a few songs while sync'd stops playing altogether.
I am disappointed that Andrew does not provide input here, since VortexBox-Player is his initiative.

Yep – a reinstall of the vortexbox player worked for me as well.

A bit unfair on Andrew there.
The problem was just reported today and I don't believe Andrew is mandated to be on-call 24/7. Vortexbox is a tremendous product, but I believe the concept is to be and remain open-source with the "help" coming from the community – such as Bill & Steve today.
Thanks Steve & Bill.

Linty,
Andrew made VortexBox-Player the default player on April 27, not today. He notified our community that if we had an older version of VortexBox that we don't have VortexBox Player installed by default and that we should intall it by using the Upgrade menu in the GUI.
That Upgrade has never worked for VBP without error.
I appreciate Bill's and Steve's assistance with gaining function, yet no community customer can provide the correction to make VortexBox-Player sync with hardware players. Andrew is required to fix that error. As stated, VBP does not sync on my system. Does VBP sync on yours?
It's my belief that if tests were conducted before release of -1, -2, -3, & -4, the previous and current failures would have been obvious and could have been corrected or the instructions provided by Bill and Steve could have been included.
I'm glad that you are satisfied with VortexBox-Player. Unfortunately, it does not satisfy the requirements in my application.
I understand that you think it is unfair that I am disappointed. I appologize.

I can verify that vortexbox-player-0.9-4 does NOT contain the mac_list.conf and mpd0.conf files in /etc/vortexbox-player. These config files are deleted when you upgrade to this version, and have to be restored from a backup or by using the VB web GUI VortexBox Player Configuration page. Hopefully, Andrew will fix this in the next release of vortexbox-player.
I can also verify that sync of vortexbox-player with a hardware player (Duet Receiver) sometimes fails. After playing 8 mp3 tracks, the players did not advance to the next track, but stayed "stuck" on track 8, replaying it over and over, with no sound output from either player. Clicking the "track advance" button on the SBS web GUI for vortexbox-player did advance to track 9, and restored sync and sound output to both players.
Also, I found that sync was good at the start of a track, but "drifted" away from perfect sync as the track played.
So sync is partially working, but there are still problems.

Team, I'm not aware that the sync issue has been resolved more than the partial fix posted a few weeks ago. Resolution is on going! Nothing to verify even when the new release happens unless told otherwise.
During upgrades the vortexbox-player folder is deleted. The best thing is to copy the vortexbox-player folder located in keepout/etc to a safe place on another machine prior to ugrade so you can copy it back after.

You should not have to back up any mpd files. Just go into the VortexBox Player control panel in the web GUI and hit submit. All the mpd files will be recreated and VortexBox Player will be restarted.
