VortexBox Player has a bug that causes FLAC playback to pop and stutter once in a while. We have traced this down to a bug in the FLAC library. I think we have a fix for it. If you are experiencing this problem please update your VortexBox using the GUI update then reboot.
Please post here if you are still having this probelm after the update.

Things are looking good with the new version of mpd, Andrew.
I'm not seeing any more "flac lost sync" errors in /var/log/mpd.log, and no stutters in the FLAC playback after switching to a new track.
Thanks go to Max Kellermann, author of VortexBox Player and lead developer of mpd, for investigating this problem and creating a patch to mpd as a workaround.
Now, if we can get Max to investigate syncing VortexBox Player with hardware Squeezebox players…

Whoohoo! VortexBox Player now works great for me. I hope everyone shares the same success.
I want to thank everyone who had a hand in validating the problem we were having, and to those that toiled at fixing it.
Your work is VERY much appreciated.

Ron, I think that Max is a rock star. What you may not know is that he has fixed bugs in SBS, MPD and FLAC and wrote Vortexbox-Player to make this all possible. This would not be without him for sure!
gmeister, it's post like this make it all worth wild. The first e-mail between Andrew and myself regarding MPD goes back to 11/15/09 and some 500+ e-mails later MPD and the killer web interface gui here for all. Think about this much work behind the scenes for Andrew while supporting this site/forum also makes him a rock star!
Finally, to the members like Ron and the rest that exposed the playback issue and tested ideas and helped however you could…a pint of bitter to youl!
Enjoy Vortexbox player and spread the word!
Jesus R (AKA sonorejr)
PS wait till you see whats next:)

Oh no, the stutter is back!! I am getting one or two tiny stutters near the beginning of every track again.
I'm using the latest VortexBox Server and Player, along with the (beta) Squeezebox Server Version 7.4.3 r30375.
Is anyone else noticing it?

The latest update to mpd-0.16-8 has reintroduced the FLAC stutter bug.
This can be verified by running
tail -f /var/log/mpd.log
while playing FLAC tracks on VortexBox Player. When you switch to a new FLAC track, you'll see "flac lost sync" errors appended to the above log file.
The problem can be fixed by downgrading to the previous version of mpd via
yum downgrade mpd
This will reinstall mpd-0.16-7 which has the fix for the FLAC stutter problem.
All users of VortexBox Player should downgrade to mpd-0.16-7; mpd-0.16-8 has reintroduced the FLAC stutter bug.
Can you look into this, Andrew? Whatever changes you made in mpd-0.16-8 broke the FLAC stutter fix.

Thanks for the quick fix, Andrew. I tested mpd-0.16-9 and did not see any "flac lost sync" errors when switching FLAC tracks. VortexBox Player users should upgrade to this version.
