My Vortexbox stopped working or should I say that it has disappeared from my network. Everything else in my network is running correctly, just the Vortexbox. I read that you can re-boot it connecting it to a monitor and keyboard directly. This would be a huge pain for me. Is there a way to re-boot from a computer on my network. Please respond in dummy language, not a IT person at all here.
Connecting a monitor and keyboard is your best option but you may be able to connect with SSH if you know the IP address of your VortexBox.
rebooting your router then rebooting your VortexBox may also help. If you have a VortexBox appliacne you can tap the power button on the front and it will power off gracefully.
Is there a way to reboot manually using the power button on the vortexbox itself or do you need to do it using the prompt after connecting a monitor and keyboard? What command(s) would I enter after entering my password?
"shutdown -r" Can you explain what this means? Is this what is inputted in the command prompt to re-boot? Sorry for not understanding the meaning, please explain for a very non-tech person.

Brian,
Like Andrew wrote, If you have a VortexBox appliacne you can tap the power button on the front and it will power off gracefully. Pressing the button again will cause power-up and reboot.
Most likely cause is that your DHCP (automatic assignment) IP address changed. Try searching here to find the methods to determine what the IP address is now, and how to change DHCP to fixed IP so the problem will not happen in the future.
If you cannot find instructions by surching here, write what you have done, and someone will lend a hand.
I am using a router and I assigned the IP address to the vortexbox appliance. I bought this two weeks ago and have ripped about 200 CD's and everything was perfect. Yesterday during ripping of a CD it never finished. The VBA is no longer found on the Squeezebox Duet and it does not show up on my network. The rest of my network is working fine, just the VBA is having issues. I can hook a monitor and keyboard up to the VBA, but what should I be entering at the command prompt after I enter the password. Any idea what has happened?
I hooked a monitor and my Mini Logitech keyboard to the VBA. The keyboard does not have function keys, but hopefully it will do for now it is the only USB keyboard I have at the moment. I get the following after starting the VBA and after it gives the processor information:
Boot and Select proper boot device
Insert Boot media in selected Boot device and press a key_
