Running Vortex  box appliance 2 TO.

Vortex Box V. 1.4.

Squeezebox server 7.5.1.

Since 2 days, the whole music (and files/flac) has disappeared.

The VB is however accessible, e.g.  with MC : nothing in /storage

The SB server is working, athough no file can be played ; same thing in Foobar.

Looking at the  VB files on the network (from an XP PC) : nothing, nada, niente, rien, que dalle !!!

Looking at the VB "system information" page : the music partition has disappeared

If it can help, Foobar has had recently some problems to read its playlist : mebbe a common cause ?

Has there been a glitch in the VB software upgrade I did a few days ago ?

There is no bug I know of that could cause this problem. There is not normaly a partition called "music" under system information. Music is stored on the storage partition.

Is it possible you acidentially deleted the folder? Can you go to command line and see if /storage/music/flac has any files in it? The command

ls /storage/music/flac

will check this.

Andrew, he said MC showed nothing in /storage (MC is a text based file manager – Midnite/Midnight Commander) yum install mc Laugh

I hope that this problem is only a mounting one, as the other partitions seem OK.

What is the command to mount the unseen partition ?

The only partitions are / and /storage. If you see both of thouse. All your partitions are mounted.

This is what I read on the sys. info page :

/    ext3    /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00

/boot    ext3    /dev/sda1

/dev/shm    tmpfs    tmpfs

This is where I was used to see the /storage partition : it has disappeared.

As previously written, when I look at the VB with Midnight Commander, the /storage directory hosts only a shortcut (…to himself).

How can I try to mount it manually.

…and why dit it happen ?

I have never seen a partition become unmounted. Do you do anything non-standard such as mount partitions from another system?

Usuallythe mount command

mount /storage

will mount a partition that is not already mounted.

The answer to Mount /storage is :

"mount can't read superblock"

Is it a filesystem recognition problem ? (an idea found on the web)

The partition is (was?) around 1.8 TB and formatted in  an unusual (for me) format.

Another message : "couldn't initialize XFS library"

How to reinstall it, and where ?

Not much help from here…. so I reinstalled the whole appliance with the V1.4 iso.

There is a very short message at the boot about a "vortexbox repair" but I have been too slow to read it fully and then press the right key (that should be somewhere in the manual).

After a flawless install, I am now restoring the >tera via the network. I guess it will last till tomorrow …afterwards I'll configure the SB server again.

I still have no explanation to what happened.

Good to hear you have it working. Without more detail such as logs of the error it's impossible for us to know what the problem was.
