1. Improvements to tagging. ripit does not tag compilation albums very well — the artist is set to "Various Artists", and the track title has the actual artist embedded in it. This is a result of using CDDB and MusicBrainz without post-processing the data they return.
Some users have reported getting "Unknow Artist", "Unknown Album" on non-obscure albums. CDDB and Musicbrainz don't always have high-quality tagging data.
2. Improvements to the Get Cover Art function. While many users have a good success rate, others have found some strange covers being retrieved. Incorporation of bliss for cover art management on VortexBox would be a good step. Bliss could be added to the Package Management section, and an icon could be provided for it on the VB GUI Home page.
3. Packaging of MusicIP Server as an rpm (this is on my plate), and addition of Music IP Server to the Package Management section.
4. A GUI interface for Squeezeslave configuration, and selecting either Squeezeslave or VortexBox player as the active music player. This could be an extension of the current VortexBox Player configuration screen.
5. Enhancements to FLAC mirror to allow mirroring a selected subdirectory of /storage/music/flac, and not always the entire FLAC library.
6. Update to Fedora 12. Fedora 13 is scheduled to be released on May 18, so it's time to upgrade VortexBox to Fedora 12. Support for Fedora 11 will phase out 1 month after Fedora 13 is released.
I vote for two functions related to backup and restore:
On the Vortexbox GUI, complement the backup, with restore
1) From the GUI, recognize a USB drive that was used by Vortebox to back up to, and allow all the music, cover art, movies to be restored to default locations on Vortexbox
2) From the GUI, allow squeezebox centric settings to be backed up and restored. i.e. plugins, settings for players etc
I sure would like a way to share my pictures over the Net so that Grandma and Grandpa could have a look at pictures of their granddaughter whenever they saw fit. Browser based would be ideal because downloading files seems to be problematic for my dad. Filezilla is great for me but a tad overwhelming for a guy born in the 30's! : )
And may I just reiterate, THANKS for a great product!

Excellent idea; gets my vote too.
Also:
A "Correct System Time" GUI button. We've seen several users whose VBs did not handle the change to Daylight Saving Time properly. This button would do the "service ntpd stop; ntpdate pool.ntp.org; service ntpd start" sequence.
I responded to Andrew's post at the Slimdevices forum http://forums.slimdevices.com/…..ostcount=3 . In addition I'd support Ron's suggestion of going to fedora 12 plus the Daylight Saving Time issue which I have seen on my own setup.
Also, I'd like to express my strong enthusiasm for Vortexbox. I recommend it to all who ask for advice on music servers and streaming.
There are some great ideas here, most of which I would like to see incorporated in the next release.
The only other thing I can think of, and I don't know whether it's even possible, is for Vortexbox-player to be able to wirelessly stream to network media players such as a Squeezebox receiver. It would great to be able to stream high-rez files (provided the receiver is capable of processing them) to a stereo.
I too would like to express my gratitude for such a great music playing machine – it's simply brilliant.
1 – The Upgrade Status / Package Manager page states, "Please reboot your VortexBox at upgrade completion. Add a reboot tab on that page.
Excellent idea. Gets my vote too.
FYI, many upgrades do not really need a reboot. That's one of the advantages of Linux over Windows. For example, I just updated my VBA to the new 7.5.0 release of SqueezeBox Server. Everything worked well after the upgrade without a reboot.
But since it's hard to tell which upgrades require a reboot and which do not, it's always safe to do the reboot, even if it's not actually necessary.
2 – The VortexBox-Player should synchronize with Duet and other players.
This is a long-standing bug that is not likely to be fixed in the near term. If you need sync with hardware players, use Squeezeslave instead of VortexBox Player. See http://vortexbox.org/forum/gen…..eezeslave/ for details.
I assume this will include the latest version of SlimServer 7.5.0 (or 7.5.1). I would like some of the new features for my radio. Only issue with getting a new device is you have to stay up with the new versions to fix issues.
Copying the music files over the network to the appropriate VB folder is straight forward for most of us, but other house mates or family members purchase digital music and some don't find it as easy.
A simple, uncomplicated, web page which you can select multiple files from your local computer and upload a whole album to the predetermined correct folder would be a useful feature in my opinion.

I'm running SqueezeBox Server 7.5.0 on my VBA using the rpm from the slimdevices download site. The update went very smoothly. I hope Andrew makes the 7.5.0 version available in the VortexBox repository soon; he usually makes a few minor changes to the Logitech version.
4. The install process automatically starts the new version. Wait a minute for initialization to complete, and the SBS web page at http://vortexbox-ip:9000 will be available.
5. You will be prompted to do firmware updates on some of your Logitech hardware devices. Once the firmware updates are complete, you're ready to go.
Not sure if it is possible, but, it would be great to be able to connect a USB touch screen to the VBA to control the internal player or a remote SB player (receiver).
How about support (install option) for Twonky Media Manager? On another thread (Pictures) I have been discussing how to display pictures on a large screen TV that are stored on VBA. Installing Twonky server made the connections all work but it is not very friendly to use. You can see all the pictures by folder but must manually navigate and adjust screen size etc. That may be at least partly the fault of using a Wii as the player. I'd like VBA to be the media server for my entertainment center for pictures in addition to audio.

Can you explain more of what you want? There is alread an option to install Twonky Media Server.

You can do this already. It's called the SqueezeBox Touch.
