Hi,
Newby here- thanks for your help. I ripped some discs while my internet was down, now I am uncertain how to force an update of artist/album information. I am not experienced with Linux command lines- hoping theremay be an easy fix. Thanks for your help.

BSoz,
My guess, and it's only a guess, is that it will be most efficient to re-rip those disks.
The reasoning behind the guess it that lookup and matching of the disk's digital content to the tag data occurs at rip time. I don't think there are tagging programs that can find tags from the flac or MP3 files.
Someone else may know of a method.

I use Mediamonkey for most of my large scale tag editing and such, install the musicIP Tagger and it works wonders or you could use MusicBrainz Picard but you'd have to use a different machine but there are options if you do a little searching.

Rerip the disks or use subsonic to fix the tags.

From Windows, via my local network, I use Foobar 2000 or, better in this case, MP3tag

The question was how to force an update of artist/album information after the CDs had been ripped. Will either Foobar 2000 or MP3tag do that automatically for MP3 or FLAC files?

Winamp autotag might manage the MP3s?

Yes. Not always, but they can, via an automated request to freedb, discogs, Amazon…
