Disable MP3 saving

All the music that is stored on my vortexbox appliance will only be used by a squeezebox, or other devices that can read flac, so I don't need to save the files in mp3 format. I have two questions:

1. Is it okay to delete all the contents of the mp3 folder on the vortexbox (files\\music\\mp3) ? If I do so, will they also disappear from the read-only folders (I saw a post about this earlier)?

2. Is there a way to tell the VB to only save ripped CDs in flac? What would be the command line(s) to do that?

1. Yes and yes, I did this when I originally set up vortexbox

Change the 'coder' line to coder=2, the doc explains how to get to the config file and how to edit it.
