Hi,
I currently have most of the family's music collection managed by itunes on an imac and external USB. Two of my family have ipods and they would therfore like to continue to use itunes.
I have just bought a Sansa clip+ and I have started to rip CDs to FLAC. These are currently stored on my laptop.
I have also just bought a Squeezebox boom so now it seems like time to rationalise everything. My plan is to buy a VBA and move all the music (mp3, wms, aac, flac) there. That way I will be able to access the entire collection from the Squeezebox.
What I need to know is how will this all work with the ipods and Sansa. I assume I will be able to perform the usual drag and drop for the Sansa but will I also be able to use itunes for the ipods? I want to keep things as simple as possible for the rest of the family but I would like to avoid duplicating music if possible.
Thanks

Hi,
I think you should be fine, if you move your iTunes music to the vortexbox and then you will be able to see the VB on your mac as a network drive so update your iTunes to point to the vortexbox to pick up your music rather then your external USB

Any DRM encrypted music you bought from the iTunes store can only be used with iTunes. The all your CDs you can use with all your devices including iPods.

Not wanting to hijack this thread…..
I have a similar setup, but I've not yet settled on a way to sync the multiple iPods with music from the VB.
ITunes won't sync 'shared' music with an iPod so, after a trying a couple of alternatives I am currently using SongBird in place of iTunes, on each computer. But it does have the occasional problem with the ipod.
I was wondering how other people synced with iPods?
(Which would bring us almost back to the original thread.)

What you can do is what I did:
I added the music on the vortexbox to my iTunes library. Now they're in the library but not on my internal hard drive (the location is still the VB). Something you have to look out for is that you don't have iTunes preset to copy everything to the harddrive after being added to the library (iTunes>preferences>advanced>copy files to folder 'iTunes Media' with adding to the library).
Hope this helps
