There has been some interest in testing the latest squeezeslave compiled for VortexBox. 0.9.85 is the absolute latest from the squeezeslave SVN.

This command will install the beta

yum –enablerepo=vortexboxbeta update

NOTE: that's <double dash enablerepo> not single

I tested it here and it works great for playing FLAC files. But as soon as you play some streaming radio it hangs and you need to restart squeezeboxserver. maybe somebody else will have better results.

Hi,

Unfortunatley, SqueezeSlave still seems broken for me, too.

squeezeslave 0.9-84
compile flags: linux portaudio:1899 debug signals daemon

Switch from Internet Radio to local flac file and squeezeslave "disappears."

Ok everybody, This looks like a problem with 7.4 not SqueezeSlave. I added a bug to the Logitech Bug tracker for this. Create a bug tracker account and "vote" for this bug. The more people that vote the more attention it will get.

Hi,

The SqueezeSlave issue seems to be caused by 7.4 (see http://forums.slimdevices.com/…..hp?t=69338 )

Andrew filed a bug report https://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=14740 Unfortunatley SlimDevices/Logitech has not yet assigned anyone to review/work on the bug.

I recommend anyone interested in a fully functioning SqueezeSlave to vote on the bug  (You need to register and login to the bug tracking site first).

The more comment/votes on the bug tracking site, the better the chances of this SqueezeSlave issue being resolved.

Thanks,

My bug was assigned today. It says milestone "future". As far as I can tell that means they have no plans to fix it any tim soon. Please vote on this bug and mention it in the SqueezeBox forums.

Sorry for the potentially stupid question but does this mean that the USB to SPDIF connection to a DAC will not work on 7.4. I ask this as I plugged my DAC in and did not see a new player come up in the players drop down.

It may work, but you need to set it up.

1. Plug in the DAC and reboot your VortexBox. It might come up after the reboot.

2. do a

squeezeslave -L

from command line and see if it's listed. Post the results of this command.

OK, plugged it in and rebooted.

Tried the command above but comes back with a command not found. Also did a

find . -name squeezeslave -print

from the root directory, and it did not find it. Then tried

yum install squeezeslave

which installed successfully. Rebooted and it now works OK : )

By the way squeezeslave – L came back with:

Output devices:

* 0: HDA Intel: ALC888 Analog (hw:0,0)
   1: HDA Intel: ALC888 Analog (hw:0,2)
   2: default

Thanks for your help – off to compare the quality now with the squeezebox digital output.

Cheers,

Geoff

Been playing around and things still work but some strange things going on.

The USB/SPDIF player seemed to freeze so I rebooted the vortexbox. Then when looking on the players on SqueezeboxServer there are only two: The normal one and a Vortexbox one, where there were three before (I assume one was a local player for the sound card).

So now USB/SPDIF player is called VortexBox as opposed to VortexBox(USB) as it was before the reboot.

SqueezeSlave -L now reeds:

* 0: HDA Intel: ALC888 Analog (hw:0,0)
   1: HDA Intel: ALC888 Analog (hw:0,2)

Still a bit unstable though as it seems to crash when going from iPlayer back to my albums.

By the way tried the sound quality out and I can't detect a difference as I guess might be expected.
