VortexBox is based on Fedora Core 10. It has a command line interface to access the underlining Linux operating system. Although you can use VortexBox without ever accessing the command line. The command line interface offers limitless possibility for expanding an customizing your VortexBox.

The easiest way to access the command line is to connect a monitor and keyboard to your VortexBox. This will give you a login prompt. You can login useing the username root and the password your created when you installed your VortexBox.
It is not always convenient to access your VortexBox directly. Mostly you will want to access it from your PC or Mac desktop machine.

Access from Windows XP or Vista

Although any SSH client will work PuTTY is an easy to use and free remote command line interface application. Download putty and install it on your PC. Once it’s installed start the PuTTY application. You will be asked for a host name. I most cases you can just enter the word vortexbox as the host name. You can also enter the IP address of your VortexBox if this does not work.
Click on open and accept the VortexBox SSH key if asked. You will not be presented with a login prompt. Enter your user name (usually root) and password (that you created during installation).
