Newbie Question: Where are my Mp3s?

I had most of my collection ripped and placed on the vortexbox by a service. Now, however, when I rip new music, the flac version ends up fine, but for Mp3's, I get a new folder, and I get the cover art, but no mp3 files. Going to //vortexbox and clicking "start mirroring" seems to initiate a long process of going through _all_ of my flac files and converting them all, when all I need is just the recently added albums. I thought the box was supposed to automatically rip to both -- have i turned that off somehow?

I bought Vortexbox appliance through Amazon, then sent the box and my CDs to MusicShifter. They added the ripped files to the right directories (storage/music/flac .../mp3).




Maybe it is just my misunderstanding - i thought new CDs were by default ripped to _both_ FLAC and MP3. If I understand you, though, I have to manually run the Flac Mirror in order to move files from FLAC to MP3? So is it correct that the first time I run Flac Mirror, it will overwrite all of my MusicShifter-created MP3s. But then when I run it in the future, it will only create MP3s from newly-added Flacs? Is there a way to make this process automatic? I'd envisioned just putting new CDs in the tray and having them appear as both flacs and mp3s.

So MusicShifter ripping your music to mp3 not flac? Then they you put the mp3s in the FLAC folder?


Automatically ripping them to mp3 slows the process down. It can take 10-12 min to rip a CD insted of 4. So it seems better to run it manually. Also many people don't want mp3. You also have the option to convert your flacs to other formats. So i can't automate it because everybody wants somthing different.


You just click on flac mirror when your done ripping to FLAC.

What service did you use to get your CDs on a VortexBox? Did you build your VortexBox or buy it from them?




A new CD will be ripped to FLAC. When you use FLAC mirror all FLACs files that don't already have mp3 mirrors will be mirrored.
