Good Evening,

I want to run this past you before I take the plunge and install Vortexbox.

I currently have a Vista laptop with all my music in Itunes and use a couple of apps to tweak them (Itunes Library Updater & MP3gain). The music files are stored on a seperate share under the following folders. Music\Albums; Music\Singles; Music\Itunes.

I currently stream music via Squeezecenter to a Slimp3.

What I want to do is this. Have a dedicated music server running Vortexbox and serving the Slimp3. housing my music collection in 2 folders. Music\Albums; Music\Singles. (simple enough)

What I want to do is still use my existing Vista laptop to manage my music.

My question is, will it be possible to connect to the \music\albums & singles share on the vortexbox PC from Vista?

If it is then great. if not can you give me some ideas.

Finally, would the following laptop be powerful enough to run vortexbox and squeezebox? Toshiba Sat Pro 490xcdt PII 266 128mb Ram. If not what is the absolute minimum it will run on?

Thanks

Richard

Yes, you can manage the VotexBox from vista. Just drag and drop the music files over. That laptop is not powerful enough and will not have enough hard drive space. I would recommend buying a low power dell desktop for $50 on e-bay.

Cheers Andrew,

I'll have to have a look for a different laptop then. Currently don't have the space for a desktop.

THanks for the info.

the small form factor desktops you can get on ebay are about the same size as a laptop. Some are smaller.
