Hello,

Like many others, I discovered the existence of Vortexbox in the Slimdevice forum; I was initially looking for a NAS solution, but the installation looks a bit daunting for someone with no Linux experience.

From what I can read, a Vortexbox Appliance might be just what I need, but I have a few questions.

As a matter of background:

Hardware: Logitech Transporter and a Duet

Software: I am in the process of ripping a few hundred CDs into FLAC, using dBpoweramp. I am currently storing all this on my PC (Windows XP for now) and am making frequent backups. The ripping process is quite a bit of work: I listen mostly to classical music, and, however great dBpoweramp, I find the tagging inconsistent, so I retag using Mp3tag, which I find very powerful.

Moving to the questions:

- Is it fair to assume that the ripping software coming within the VBA is no better at tagging classical music than dBpoweramp? If so, I will continue to retag using Mp3tag, which I guess is ok...

- Will the VBA support the tagging formats used by dBpoweramp and Mp3tag (ID3 I think)?

- if so, how do I go about retagging? Do I simply 'see' the files on my PC, as if the VBA was an external drive? If so, can I simply direct Mp3tag to the directories on the VBA for retagging?

- What is a safe and cheap solution to create backups? Can I simply do so with an external drive using a USB interface?

- I tend to manage my music from the Squeezebox Server's web interface, rather than using the device's remote. Is this still possible with the VBA?

Many thanks for your attention to my questions, and I wish you all a happy Thanksgiving!
