So I just got my new Beatles remastered set in the mail. Turns out every CD in the set seems to have a documentary quicktime movie on it, which vortexbox sees as a track. It then seems to rip the .mov file okay, but the ripper just stalls/hangs/times out during encoding http://vortexbox.org/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-frown.gif.
I have rebooted several times, and even went as far to do a fresh vortexbox install to make sure it wasn't something else causing it. Is there anyway to specify which tracks to rip (or what "tracks" to exclude) to prevent this from happening? Or am I forced to rip tracks elsewhere and import into vortexbox?
Thanks!
Rob

Hi There
I've had problems with ripping cd's to flac that have multimedia extras or copy control on them, the ripper would rip the cd but then not move onto the next cd.
I raised to Andrew and he advised that it would time out eventually but this was too long for me, from a command line I stopped and started the vortexbox service which meant the next cd could be ripped again.
Have you tried this approach ?
The commands were (I believe but not at home to check 100%) -
service vortexbox stop
service vortexbox start
Thanks
Ian
EDIT - this was my original post

you could try the above or just rip manually from another application if thats an option

Ian,
Thanks for the insightful reply, I knew there had to be others who have run into this problem.
The first time it happened I waited a good 20 minutes hoping for completion or a timeout, second time 10 minutes or so. All the audio tracks ripped okay, but no cover art or m3u file etc.
I will just continue on with ripping the set using EAC and enjoy.

You can restart the autoripper from the GUI to save you going to the command line. It's in the intereste of the CD industry to make CDs hard to rip and somtimes they make one that stumps the autoripper. In that case you can use programs like winamp etc.
