So I've tried installing this on both a P4 board and a AMD athlon xp board. Both with built in nics, and both times i select the >30 boot option (cuzz i've got a 100 gig) It starts to install but when it goes to configure eth0 (i only have 1 nic on both machines) and after a min it says that it can't configured and asks me to retry, while it's trying to configure it, i don't see any traffic lights on my switch.
Any Idea whats up?
Thanks

I have had that happen a few times. I just tell it to retry and it's fine.

I left it alone for a while and just started to install. But now the problem is i log into root and pull up an ifconfig, while i shows a mac and stuff for eth0 it doesn't show a IPv4 address just a (i assume self assigned) IPv6 address. I'm putting this on my server network and I've played around enough to know my smoothwall is running the DHCP properly and the cable i'm using is tested and good so it makes me think that this doesn't have the driver for this nic (old built in nic on a amd athlon xp board (1.2 ghz).
Or it coulda gone bad on me too.
I'm going to try an old NIC PCI i've got lying around, My question is do i need to reinstall or will it boot up and find the new nic (probably being eth1 at this point). I'm not sure if it will screw up some of your code if it's not eth0.
I don't know too much about linux but if i disable the nic in the bios and add in this PCI card will it then become eth0?
thanks for the help andrew!

Yes it does sound like a nic problem. Just disable the nic in the BIOS and put in a different one. Even if you can't disable the old NIC and the new one comes up as eth1 it will still work. All VortexBox services listen on all ethernet interfaces.

Alright this is kind of a weird issue, I've tried several differn't cd drives, and when it's loading the packages, sometimes stops right on the last packet and says complete, (but when it reboots it doesn't load, no command in grub) and sometimes just stops halfway through.
Any suggestions?

Sound like a hardware problem.
