Looking to buy the vortexbox. I am a layman with three questions:


can you give me a 'bigger than a breadbox" estimate of how many cd's will fix on 1TB?

Is the VB relatively portable and able to rip cds independently of being linked to my squeezebox duet and network (so I can take the Votexbox along with me when I visit friends and family, and load their music onto my VB)
How long does it take to load the average CD onto the VB harddrive?

1. An average CD ripped as FLAC takes about 250MB and about 50MB as a 128kbps mp3. So about 300mb per album if you rip both. A conservitive estimate would be about 3000 CDs.




2. VortexBox uses the internet to look up track lables and cover art. So an internet connection of some kind is required for ripping. Seems like your friends would have internet access at their houses?




3. about 5min for FLAC or 10 min for FLAC and mp3. Future versions will rip to FLAC and then mirror to mp3 afterward to speed up CD ripping.
