Right now I run freenas with 3 500g HDs ..if I was to convert to Vortex how would I be able to make use of all my HDs?

Depends on how you want to use them. There is a RAID option that will do mirroring. When you install you can select it. If you want something more complicated you would have to do a manual setup.




The best option would be to get a hardware RAID controller for your ssytem. They a cheap on e-bay and you have better preformance. Also it's easyer to recover if a drive fails.
